An Unforgettable Cruise on Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth.
I interviewed the wonderful Alex Gladwell-Spencer who created the Cunard Critic Facebook Group to talk to me on the Cruis Shop Save YouTube channel about her recent cruise to Japan. Join us through this captivating interview.
Are you ready for a thrilling adventure through Japan’s enchanting ports? Join us as we embark on an unforgettable journey on the Queen Elizabeth Cruise, exploring the fascinating Southern Islands of Japan. From historic cities to breathtaking landscapes, this cruise promises to be a voyage of discovery, immersing you in the rich culture and traditions of Japan.
Setting Sail: An Unplanned but Serendipitous Journey
Alex’s journey began with a twist of fate as we had to reroute from Tokyo to Hong Kong. Little did we know that this change would lead us to embark on a life-changing cruise through Japan’s Southern Islands. After a few days in Hiroshima, a city teeming with history, we boarded Queen Elizabeth in Yokohama, ready to explore the wonders of Japan.
Ports of Call: A Whirlwind Tour
Over the course of ten nights, we visited several fascinating ports, each with its own unique charm. We explored Nagasaki, a city that has risen from the ashes of devastation to become a vibrant and cosmopolitan hub. The European influences were evident in the city’s architecture and culture, creating a fascinating blend of tradition and modernity.
Delving into Japanese Culture
While some of our excursions were organized by the cruise line, we also ventured out independently, embracing the local culture and cuisine. Nagasaki, in particular, stole our hearts with its warm and welcoming locals, and the exquisite taste of authentic ramen, which we found surprisingly affordable!
Enchanting Kochi and the Charm of Sakurajima
In Kochi, we explored the magnificent castle and wandered through the charming town. Our side trip to Sakurajima, a volcanic island, was an unforgettable experience. A hop-on, hop-off bus allowed us to explore the island’s natural wonders at our own pace, offering breathtaking views of the Japanese coastline.
5. Cultural Exchange: A Special Visit to a Buddhist Temple
One of the most touching moments was visiting a Buddhist temple in South Korea. Our 12-year-old companion, Gabriel, became a guest of honour, receiving warm welcomes from the locals. The heartfelt experience left an indelible mark on our hearts.
6. Aboard Queen Elizabeth: International Delights
On board Queen Elizabeth, we discovered a lively mix of international passengers, including Japanese, Australians, and Brits. The crew made every effort to ensure that everyone felt at home, and the cross-cultural events allowed us to experience the best of each nation’s traditions.
A Window into Japan’s Soul
Our cruise through Japan’s Southern Islands has been a once-in-a-lifetime journey filled with unforgettable encounters and cherished memories. From the bustling streets of Nagasaki to the serene beauty of Kochi, we’ve been captivated by the soul of Japan.
